But the two steadicam style arms support the gimbal with a much bigger floating sweet spot than either the EasyRig or the ReadyRig, which is really important for isolating steps. It is more of a pain to get in and out of, it's heavier, and you look like Dr. But guess what? I found it by far the best way to carry a gimbal. It looks nuts, it's way too techy for it's own good, it's clearly meant for people buying gear based only on looks.

ReadyRig works really well for gimbals, period.ĪrmorMan: This was the one I was prepared to write off. I much preferred handheld that way compared to the EasyRig. As a bonus, I found doing handheld with the camera hanging from only one rod over my shoulder worked fantastic.

But that's not always a problem, and there are ways around it.

It's fantastic for hanging a gimbal with the exception of one point: you have to do a lot of panning with your body because the gimbal doesn't pan far from two hang points. It's tricky to tune to help with taking steps out of your footage, but it's possible. It looks klutzy, but the "vest" is the best of just about anything I've tried transfers all the weight to your hips squarely. Even with the Serene Arm that the one I tested had, it was the the most difficult to take step-bounces out of your footage with the gimbal. But I know ER has different harnesses now and I'll give the benefit of the doubt that newer ones are better. At least the EasyRig I had (an older one), the hip belt was the worst out of the 3 and it seemed hard to get good weight transfer to the hips. But I do know a fair amount of people that swear by them, and I also have one friend that felt like I did, but them got the hang of it on a job. I could never get the hang of the camera hanging from one point above your head, and then that hang point swinging back and forth as you walked. I was looking for something to support my new-to-me Arri Maxima gimbal, and then if I was lucky do double duty to help with handheld.ĮasyRig: My least favorite out of the 3, but is the best way to do handheld, especially at shoulder height. So for a short time, I had all 3 in my garage and got to spend real time with them. I went shopping for a system a few months ago, and before I bought I borrowed all 3 from DP friends (benefit of living in Los Angeles). But the Serene Arm/Easy Rig combo costs like 3x as much. The other two seem to be pretty much gimbal-only. The Easy Rig/Serene Arm seems like a killer option, since you can also just take the Serene Arm off and use it as a standard Easy Rig when you're not running a gimbal. The Ready Rig seems pretty versatile, but it does have a pretty high profile vertically, and no power options as far as I can tell. But the battery plate on that back is intriguing. I'm a pretty tall operator (6'5"), so that is a bit of a factor.īy my rough estimates, some pros/cons are such: It seems like the Armor Man is only applicable to dual-handle configurations, but not a ring-handle configuration. Does anyone here have a preference? Any ideas of the pros/cons of each?įor a little background: I'll be flying a Movi M15, in both the classic-handle and ring-handle configurations. I only have experience with Ready Rig, but the others seems like pretty good options as well. It seems like the top 3 options on the market are the Ready Rig, Tilta Armor Man, and the Serene Arm w/ an Easy Rig. Hello! I'm looking into buying a gimbal support rig, and am currently weighing all my options.
